Wanted to know what does the gradient indicate?

It doesn’t really mean much. Each ‘color’ is 4 turns thick, starting from brightest and fading to darker over the 4 turns. Loner turns where units were actually spawned and survived for some time will create longer bands. Its a bit more useful than having it a single solid color, but we do want to improve this visual. Its a low priority for now.
